Predicting the Trajectory of a Bowling Ball

by Tyler Hull

Submitted : Fall 2019

This project used Newton’s second law to analyze the forces acting on a bowling ball as it travels down the lane. By analyzing the forces, deriving the kinematic equations used, and using known and set values for lane conditions predicting the trajectory of the ball was possible. The initial conditions had a large impact on determining when the ball would begin its change in trajectory and how much the ball would deflect, where slight variations in the initial conditions caused large changes further on down the lane.
