Arithmetic of Covid Infections

by Daniel Lange

Submitted : Spring 2022

For this report, I took all my data from the “Worldometers” website, which updates every day. It has been following the Corona Virus since January 22, 2020, so all the data is as accurate as reported to the CDC. I took the graph that had the overall active cases of Covid infections, and using the Left Riemann sum, calculated the approximate area under the overall graph curve. The area ended up being 12,868,331.53. This means that there are approximately 12.9 million cases of people actively having Covid around the world every ~30 days.
