Lastest Update: March 22, 2001.

Welcome. Please seat
yourself.
Because motorcycle buyer's guides do not include valve
adjustment intervals, this webpage was developed to provide this
information along with some of the typical information listed in a
Motorcycle Buyer's Guide. The information on this webpage is factual.
Subjective information and product evaluation are not included. If you
wish to read evaluations of motorcycles I suggest you start with
Motorcycles On-Line. This list is not exhaustive. I hope to
continue to add more models and possibly more manufacturers. Please
write to me if you can help me with my research or if you find any mistakes on any of the pages. My e-mail address is gusked@scfn.net.
Updated:
I changed the evaluation motorcycle link to Motorcycles On-Line. Unfortunately, Rec.Motorcycles Reviews Archives is having a server problem. Hopefully, they will be back up shortly. Also, I am trying to update the older files as much as possible. If you come across a report on
a bike that is incomplete and you have the information needed, please e-mail me with it. If I can help answer
any question you might have
please write to me. My e-mail address is gusked@scfn.net and it can be found at the bottom of this page.
Motorcycle Valve
Adjustment Intervals
For most people what motorcycle to
buy is purely an emotional decision. This webpage is not for them. For the
rest of us, finding information on valve adjustment intervals can be
difficult. The information provided by this webpage concerns the following:
Engine Displacement
- This is the size of the engine
measured in cubic centimeters
Engine Type
- This can vary from a single
cylinder to an opposed-six cylinder.
Number of Valves Per Cylinder
- Varies from 2, 4, or 5 valves
per cylinder.
Type of Valve Adjustment
- Can be screw-and-locknut,
shim-and-bucket, or hydraulic.
Valve Adjustment Interval
- Measured in miles traveled.
Type of Carburetion
- Either carburetors or fuel
injection.
Final Drive
- Can be chain, shaft, or
belt driven.
Full Wet Weight
- How much the bike weighs with
all fluids added and a full tank of gas.
Approximate Range
- An average of how far you can
ride with a full tank of gas (including reserve).
A sample maintenance schedule has also
been included (it can be found in the bottom drop menu). Because of time restraints and space limitations I decided
to exclude dual-purpose motorcycles and cruisers. The information
available has also been limited to the following manufacturers: BMW, Ducati,
Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph, and Yamaha. Please
click on the manufacturer you are interested in.
Information is provided via a drop menu.

The information on valve maintenance intervals is a recommendation only.
Riding environment may require a shorter duration between valve interval
inspections. Always refer to the owner's manual for the most accurate
information.
