Burgner, Lois P., June 1979 - A CLIENT-CENTERED EVALUATION OF THE
EMERGENCY SERVICES PROGRAM AT NORTHSIDE COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH
CENTER, TAMPA, FLORIDA
Abstract: This thesis concerns the evaluation of the Emergency
Services Program at Northside Community Mental Health Center n~
Tampa, Florida, and a description of the setting in which it
functions. A discussion of the application of anthropological
concepts to the evaluation is intended to show the role that the
applied anthropologist might take in program evaluation.
The evaluation used a modified contextual model. In drawing
conclusions and recommendations from the evaluation, the
researcher used methodology that emphasized the perceptions of
the clients who contact the Emergency Services Program. The
evaluation revealed a marked amount of client satisfaction with
the personnel and program process.
Satisfaction surveys, community forums, and citizen advisory and
review groups can provide input that is unique and vital to the
development of service programs in community mental health
centers.
