Hopper, Stacey Linn. 1998. - Developing Criteria for Archaeological Site Significance.
Abstract: The Florida Department of Transportation currently uses the National Register Criteria for evaluating archaeological site significance to comply with the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. These methods need to be reassessed. Through a detailed analysis of the Florida Site File database in the Florida Department of Transportation District 5, a new method of site evaluation based on general categories of significance has been developed. This method utilizes an evaluation matrix that ranks sites in a non-hierarchical manner to identify significant sites. Archaeological management procedures for the Florida Department of Transportation are then recommended for archaeological site mitigation and recovery.
